Weathering and Accumulation

A solo exhibition “Weathering and Accumulation” at Galleri Résistance.

In the exhibition, Shogo Hirata reflects how time leaves its trace – through fading, layering, and the quiet transformation of natural materials.

Hirata explores pigments sourced from nature – vegetables, soil, and plants – capturing colors shaped by time and place. In this exhibition, he presents textile and paper (cellulose fiber) artworks dyed with pigments extracted from vegetable scraps, alongside earthen pigments collected from Falun, Okayama (Japan), and the yard of his home in Gävleborg. Some of these works relate to his ongoing exploration of traditional Swedish red color through the research project “Shiki – folkliga pigment”.
